A "must do" at Companeros - get your picture taken on the donkey and cart.
If you've ever vacationed at a Park Rapids resort, you've likely taken the family out to eat in the little town of Dorset. Dorset is well known for it's boardwalk of restaurants. If you saw my Facebook post from Thursday September 4th, you know that Dorset House and Companeros burned down this week.
The headline in yesterday's Park Rapids Enterprise newspaper was "Icon Gone." So true. The Dorset House building was built in 1894, and was many things before it became a restaurant in the 80's. Companeros was built in 1985 and just celebrated it's 29th year in business. Both restaurants had a very strong following, by both family resort guests as well as Park Rapids residents.
Companeros has a silly donkey and cart out front (which survived the fire), and it's a common place to take an annual photo of the kids. Not unlike our northern pike, Norton, who is also seen in many annual photos taken while on vacation here at our family resort.
Kids love Norton at Two Inlets Resort.
For more information about the history of these iconic Dorset businesses, you can read several articles on the Enterprise website.
Until next time ~~ Jennifer
Jennifer and Bob love the Park Rapids, MN area and all it has to offer. Stay tuned to the blog for updates on Dorset.
