This year Park Rapids is host to the famed "Governor's Fishing Opener", which is a fun filled media event that will showcase the Park Rapids area and all that it offers for outdoor recreation opportunities. TV stations, radio hosts and travel writers from the five state area will swarm Park Rapids May 9-12, and we're going to be ready at Two Inlets Resort!
I'm pleased to announce that Two Inlets will be one of the featured tours that the media can choose to participate in on Friday morning! It was Bob's idea, I drew it up, the tour committee approved it, and now we're in business! The exposure is going to be great!
First stop will be Two Inlets Mill and Building Supply. This is one of the few operating "sawmill to finished product" mills left in Minnesota. The planer came from the Ford automobile factory in Flint, MI, where it made the wooden beds for Henry Ford's trucks. This is where Bob gets all his lumber and wood for various building and furniture projects for the resort.
Next we'll visit St. Mary's Catholic Grotto
. Built in 1959, this replica of the Grotto of our Lady of Lourdes in France is the only one of it's kind in the midwest. Built by church members, it is a source of great pride in the communtiy. It includes 16 sculptures, some made from marble and the work of a renowned Italian sculptor. This beautiful outdoor setting is the location for Mass from Memorial Day to Labor Day for anyone who wishes to attend.
Third stop is US, Two Inlets Resort on Two Inlets Lake! Built in the 1940's, our owner operated resort boasts 1000 feet of lakeshore, 13 quaint cabins right at the water's edge, screen porches and a turtle pond with live turtles. We were chosen by Midwest Living Magazine in 2005 for an 8 page photo shoot, and the Minneapolis Star Tribune listed us as "one of the most beloved resorts in the state" in June 2012. Our resort has kept it's original name through 6 owners and has been in the same family for the past 40 years.
Next stop is a photo opportunity at an active Common Loon nest, which is located on Two Inlets Lake and produces chicks year after year.
Final stop is Brookside Resort. Owned and operated by 2 generations, Brookside is the largest resort in the Park Rapids area with 28 cabins, 9 hole golf course, and a full staff that offers supervised activities for all ages.
The tour will take about 3 hours including travel time. I get to be the "voice on the bus" and give more information about the Lake Country Scenic Byway
, the ATV trails in Two Inlets State Forest
and the resorts. Of course, I'll be driving home the fact that Park Rapids is a perfect place to find a resort that will fit your family vacation needs!
I'm looking forward to opening weekend 2013!
Until next time, ~~ Jennifer
