We are looking forward to another exciting year of hosting family vacations at our Park Rapids area resort. We recently emailed a copy of our New Years letter to resort guests and their family members who are in our database. We realize that many of our blog readers may not be guests, so I thought I'd post a version of our letter on the blog, too. Enjoy!
Until next time ~~ Jennifer
Happy New Year from Two Inlets Resort
A picture of the swimming beach improvements.
Believe it or not, we need snow! With nothing on the trees and nothing on the ground, it’s a barren landscape to say the least. As the skier and snowmobiler in the house, Jack and I are itching for snow to play on. But Bob, who has the snow removal responsibilities, is rejoicing that he hasn’t had to fire up the snowblower even once this winter. There is still plenty of time for some to drop from the sky, and it probably will. We just want it to hurry up!
2014 was another good summer. It seems we say that every year, but we really mean it. Each summer brings happy, friendly guests and plenty of summer fun. 2014 sets itself apart with some pretty remarkable high water in June, and fishing didn’t seem to be quite as good as usual. Guests still caught fish, but they had to work a little harder for them.
We’re excited about a couple big projects that are currently underway. The swimming beach was landscaped and rip-rapped this fall, and native plants and grass will be planted in the spring. We did this for a few reasons - to remove the existing rock wall that was dying a slow death, to help prevent shoreline erosion that was becoming a problem, and to generally beautify the area. Because the swimming beach is located in the shore impact zone, we were required to work closely with the county to meet certain specifications. We think the new plan will make the area a great place to enjoy the water.
Some remodeling to Cabin #1 is our other major project this year. When you begin work on a building built in the 1960’s, there are bound to be surprises. For instance, Bob began the job of tearing out the ceiling to vault it, only to find that a flat roof existed under the rafters! So not only did he remove the ceiling, but the entire “hidden” roof, all from the inside! Yes, it was a pretty dirty job. The cabin will also get new bedroom windows, new kitchen cabinets, new flooring, and maybe a few other changes along the way as we get deeper into the project. We’re very excited about this cabin improvement!
If you haven’t yet made your reservation for this year, please know that 2015 has an extra summer week, so we have more openings than usual this time of year. If you were thinking about a vacation with us, there is a good chance we may have a cabin that fits your schedule.
