It's official. The ice is out on Two Inlets Lake in Park Rapids, MN. Our first resort guests are due to arrive for their resort vacation on Thursday, May 1. They will rent cabin #7 for the entire month of May, and will get in on some great fishing and bird watching.
Ice out, for whatever reason, is kind of fascinating. The pictures in this post give you an idea of how the lake looks in it's "final days". Luckily, an east wind blew the remaining sheets of ice to the western shore (we are on the east side of the lake), so we didn't have to contend with potential damage. When the wind is strong, sometimes the ice gets slammed and pushed into shore which can heave the land and do considerable damage. This year's ice, however, was pretty rotten, so even if it had come to our shore, damage wasn't likely.
The DNR says that the average ice-out date for Two Inlets Lake is April 25th, so we were only three days behind average. I hope you find these pictures that I took of the west shore interesting. Let's get excited! Fishing opener is just 12 days away!
Until next time ~~ Jennifer
Walleye opener in Minnesota is May 10th. Plan to join us for a great day on the lake ..... in a boat!
