On days like we've had these past two days, I wish our Park Rapids, MN resort was open for winter business. I have had the pleasure of ice skating on the lake, anywhere I wanted to go. Ice conditions are perfect! We've been lucky. Now keep in mind, if you require Zamboni smooth ice, this skating is probably not for you. BUT, if you want to skate for miles without having to turn around, only having to watch for the occasional ice fishing hole, crack and bumpy ice, this experience is AWESOME! As you can see from my mapped skate yesterday, I covered a lot of territory. I guess it's proof that I'm not just telling you a tall tale!
I covered five miles quite easily and never wiped out!
If you'd like to come skating with me for just 30 seconds, I posted two videos on YouTube. I tried to include cracks in the ice to help give you an idea of the surface. This video was taken on a clear day. The bumpiness you hear and feel is my skates going over some rough ice. This video was taken yesterday, which was a super foggy day. I'll admit it was just a little eerie, but so very, very quiet.
I personally think the GPS maps are kind of funny. Maybe today when I go skating I'll try to spell my name in cursive and see how that turns out! No ……… I probably won't. But then again, maybe I will. Remember, I can skate anywhere I want to (until it snows too much, of course).
Until next time ~~ Jennifer
