Happy guests and friends taking their annual picture.
Our last resort guests of the season pulled out this morning. Today marks the end of our 17th year as the owners and operators of Two Inlets Resort. We're feeling good.
2013 was a good season in a lot of ways. A common question we get is "How was your season?" Hmmm ... how can I measure 'good?'
People - We had the pleasure of accommodating all kinds of really great people. That is certainly an important way to measure a season! Fun-loving excited kids, quality time appreciating parents, and grateful grandparents. People who are on vacation really seem to be happy people, so we're lucky in that regard. We caught up with family news of our 'regular' guests, and also got to know some 'never before' guests, many who liked the resort and the Minnesota resort experience so much, that they plan to stay with us again next year. Happy people who are pleased with their stay make for a good season.
Maintenance - By this I'm referring to no major, emergency type maintenance. Bob believes in preventive maintenance, so these types of events rarely happen at Two Inlets Resort. HOWEVER, nothing lasts forever, and surprises can, and do pop up! You can imagine the maintenance schedule is fairly extensive and ongoing when you have 13 lakeside cabins for rent. Thankfully, the 'fix-its' this summer were nothing beyond the usual. I remember the summer that the turtle pond drain plugged up, requiring ALOT of digging and plumbing. That was an adventure! Having only routine maintenance makes for a good season.
Weather - I don't recall any long stretches of too hot, too cold, too wet or too windy weather. Everyone got a nice variety. (And frankly, I don't think most people really care all that much what the weather is like when they are here. They are just glad to be with family and not at work!) We had no damaging storms to speak of. We lost one tree over Labor Day weekend, and the wind flipped the water tramp over three different times during the summer. But that was all pretty minor. So a lack of damaging storms in another way to measure a good season.
I smile when I think we are so lucky to own this great Minnesota resort. Looking forward to 2014!
Until next time ~~ Jennifer
