If you've been watching the national news, or perhaps your local news, you know that it's been very cold in northern Minnesota for the past three months. It's true. Below zero temperatures every night have been a given since the middle of December, and staying below zero during the day doesn't even raise an eyebrow any more.
It's really not that bad, however. We have power, the roads are clear so travel is easy, and the house is warm. But I will admit that it DOES take some gumption to get outside to take a walk, or get into the cabins, or up to the shop, or make a trip to the grocery store.
One thing that inevitably develops during winters in Minnesota is a true appreciation for SUMMER! We natives think about Minnesota summers during Minnesota winters. And the best Minnesota summers include some time at a Minnesota resort!
Taking a family vacation at a Park Rapids, MN resort is not discovered by everyone. I'm sure some people in the nation have never heard of such a thing. I suppose for some people, it's not "fancy" enough, or doesn't take them far enough from home. I understand that. But I also think that the type of "do nothing" vacation that a Minnesota resort vacation often provides is of great value to parents, grandparents and kids of all ages.
We had some new guests enjoy a family vacation with us this past September. The family included eight adults and fourteen kids, staying in three cabins right next to each other. They sent us a really nice thank you card when they got home. Here is what grandma had to say about her experience:
"The moment I stepped inside cabin #5 1/2, I knew it was going to be a great week with our family. Our kids who live in Minnesota insisted we MUST experience "up north Minnesota on-the-lake life" to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. We came home so satisfied. Thank you both for our wonderful memory-making stay "up north."
And Grandpa's comments: "We have had trips where we were eager to get back to the comforts of home, but not this time! We really wanted to stay. It just seemed like we had not gotten enough and were robbed of a few more days of comfort and just hangin' out. You two were a big part of that. We were comfortable with you and appreciated your hospitality. Loved the cabins and the amenities. I fell in love with the kayak and watching the loons. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Thanks!"
This couple obviously wasn't sure what to expect from a Minnesota resort vacation, and we're glad they were pleasantly surprised! We love getting comments and cards from guests who think a resort vacation is a great find, just like we do!
Until next time ~~ Jennifer
